Storey’s Funfair, a familiar sight on Withernsea’s seafront, has shown its commitment to the community by donating an additional £1,000 towards the restoration of the St Nicholas Church war memorial clock.
On Tuesday, July 16th, TJ Storey, representing the funfair, presented the donation which will go specifically towards restoring the clock faces.
This generous contribution comes on top of an earlier fundraising effort held by the funfair last Easter. Darrin Stevens of the Friends of St Nicholas Church expressed his gratitude: “We’re incredibly thankful to Storey’s Funfair for their continued support. Their Easter fundraiser was a big success, and when they offered this additional £1,000 to help restore the clock faces, it was a fantastic opportunity. We’re so close to reaching our goal of a full restoration before next year, and their contribution brings us even closer.
TJ Storey spoke about the importance of the project: “The war memorial clock is a symbol of Remembrance, and it deserves to be brought back to its former glory to honor all those who served. My own great-grandfather served in Burma during World War Two, and while he thankfully returned safely, the sacrifices made by so many must never be forgotten.
Storey’s commitment extends beyond financial support. TJ went on to say: “We at Storey’s Funfair operate in Withernsea for two months a year. We want to be a part of the community, not just visitors. This donation is our way of showing that we’re invested in Withernsea and its people.
With their continued support, Storey’s Funfair is playing a vital role in ensuring the war memorial clock stands as a fitting tribute for generations to come.
