Jayne Nendick, the powerhouse behind Shores community centre in Withernsea, is on a mission. And it’s a mission with a delightful ring to it! As Shores approaches its 20th anniversary this March, Jayne’s “20 for 20” charity challenge is reaching a crescendo, filled with heartwarming acts and a whole lot of community love.
Since November 28th, Jayne has been tirelessly ticking off challenges, each a testament to her “Celebration of Appreciation” theme. We’ve seen her culinary skills shine with cupcake decorating and 20 Winter Warmer dishes, her generosity overflow with food donations, and her playful side emerge with a 20-hat tombola and a 20-round video game marathon. But her latest feat? It’s a truly unique and memorable one.
Jayne joined forces with the Friends of St Nicholas Church to ring the historic church bells – 20 times, of course! And it’s clear the experience struck a chord with her. “I truly loved every second of the bell ringing at St Nicholas Church,” Jayne enthused. “From seeing the restored clock mechanism to the twisting, turning stairs full of history, it was magical.”
She was clearly moved by the dedication of the volunteers who keep the church alive. “I highly encourage everyone to visit during events and open days,” she said. “The work the guys do as volunteers to bring this beautiful building to life is a real credit to their hard work and dedication. Thank you so much for having me.”
Darrin Stevens, chairman of the Friends of St Nicholas, echoed the sentiment. “It was a privilege for the Friends of St Nicholas Church to support Jayne and Shores in celebrating 20 years of community service.”
But Jayne’s dedication doesn’t stop at the bell tower. The past week saw her tackle a grueling 20km stationary bike ride at the local leisure centre, proving her commitment to going the extra mile (or 20 kilometers!). And as the challenge nears its end, she’s gearing up for a grand finale: “Pancake Madness” on Tuesday, March 4th. Get ready, Withernsea! Jayne will be flipping a staggering 200 pancakes, free of charge, for the community.
Jayne’s “20 for 20” challenge is more than just a series of tasks; it’s a celebration of community spirit, a testament to the impact Shores has had over the past two decades. With each rung of the church bell, each flipped pancake, and each act of kindness, Jayne is reminding us all of the power of community and the importance of appreciation. And she’s doing it with a smile and a whole lot of heart.
