The original letter sent to the people of Withernsea back in 1945 from the Rev Passmore - From this letter, the people of Withernsea raised £532 in two weeks (the equivalent of £29,000 in today’s money) to Remember the people and families who were killed in the second world war. From the original donation list in 1945, it was mostly women who gave up to £10 which is equivalent to a week’s wages today. Their duty was to serve, our duty is to remember.
