During the Saturday gathering at the Meridian Centre, Withernsea resident Rachel Chester-Wood presented a donation of £125, which included £100 raised by selling items after clearing out her garage. Rachel donated the funds in honour of her late husband, Paul Victor Wood, who proudly served in the British Army for decades and was a regular attendee of the breakfast club.

Additionally, £35 of the total donation was contributed by ward councillor Jon Dimberline, further supporting the club and its mission to provide essential services for veterans.

Rachel remarked: “It would have been my late husband’s birthday on Tuesday, 4th November, and he would have been 70. So, this donation was in honour of him. Thank you to the Withernsea AFVBC for continuing to operate the service.”

The funds were specifically used to provide refreshments for veterans attending the club, ensuring they could enjoy their time in a comfortable and welcoming environment.

Tributes from WAFVBC Chairman

Darren England, chairman of WAFVBC, expressed his gratitude, saying:
“We would like to thank Rachel for the donation to WAFVBC, which her husband Paul was a proud member of before his passing. It is so good that, even in grief, she still wants to donate to us, knowing that we are supporting veterans who live in South Holderness.

He also extended thanks to Councillor Dimberline for his contribution, stating:
“I would also like to thank Jon Dimberline who also generously made a donation.”
