The Withernsea Riff-Raff project is reaching out to residents for contributions to an exciting new exhibition exploring weddings through the decades. Taking place over the May bank holiday weekend - from Saturday, 2nd May, to Monday, 4th May - St Nicholas Church in Withernsea will host a display featuring wedding dresses, outfits, and photographs showcasing nuptials from days gone by.

A Celebration of Memories
The exhibition offers a chance to step back through time, celebrating local wedding traditions and rekindling fond memories of happy occasions. Visitors will also be invited to share their own wedding stories, bringing a personal touch to the event.
Organisers are looking for photographs, wedding attire, and other memorabilia from any decade to enrich the display. Contributions from across the region will help create a diverse and meaningful snapshot of weddings through the ages.
An Inspired Event
This idea was inspired by organiser Flo Fogg-Stevens, who hosted a similar exhibition in her former village in Northamptonshire. Speaking about her vision for the event, Flo shared:
“We did something similar years ago in the village where we lived in Northamptonshire, and it was amazing how many people came in to share memories of the church. Since St Nicholas has been closed for a long while, this is a way of bringing people back into the building.
“We’re going back through the decades, as far as we can. People have already come in saying they were married there and sharing memories, and we’d like to rekindle all that.
“But also, for anyone currently thinking about getting married, we’re hoping to link up with wedding providers, cake makers, florists, and photographers to see if they’d like to come along and talk to prospective couples.”
