Withersea War Memorial Clock Gets a New Lease on Life

The historic war memorial clock at St Nicholas Church in Withersea is one step closer to being fully restored thanks to a successful fundraising campaign.

The campaign, spearheaded by the Friends of St Nicholas Church, has raised over £65,000 to date. This includes a significant donation from an anonymous donor and contributions from several Withersea businesses.

The money will be used to restore the clock faces and hands, which were in danger of being left out due to a shortfall in funds.

Darren Stevens, a member of the Friends of St Nicholas Church, said: “This is fantastic news for Withersea. The war memorial clock is an important part of our town’s heritage, and we’re delighted that we’ve been able to raise the funds to restore it to its former glory.”

The work on the clock is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The fundraising campaign has been a real community effort, with businesses and residents alike digging deep to support the cause.

“This is a great example of what can be achieved when a community pulls together, said Stevens. “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has donated.”

The restoration of the war memorial clock is a fitting tribute to the men and women of Withersea who served in the Second World War. The clock will be a lasting reminder of their sacrifice.
